Hampton Roads Community Foundation's mission is to make life better in Hampton Roads through leadership, philanthropy, and civic engagement. Our vision is a thriving community with opportunity for all. We work to make southeastern Virginia a vibrant region where all citizens have opportunities to thrive in life, which includes being healthy, living in a stable environment, having access to quality education and job training, having well-paying jobs available, having an abundance of cultural offerings and being part of a community that values the preservation and restoration of its environment. We also want to encourage citizens to connect through their community in various ways, including as donors to worthy causes with the community foundation as a conduit for their philanthropy. Through research, funding, and special programs, the Foundation brings the community together to tackle important regional concerns and to advance racial equity.
Company History
Hampton Roads Community Foundation has a proud history. We began in 1950 as The Norfolk Foundation with total donations of $2,350. Despite the city-focused name, we were always regional -- giving scholarships and grants across southeastern Virginia to ambitious students and essential nonprofits. Since 1950 we have put more than $344 million into action through grants and scholarships -- more than $20 million just last year.
