Civic Builders, an experienced nonprofit real estate developer with deep roots in the New York City charter school community, is the preferred provider of high quality, low cost facilities for charter schools, a group that is not served by current Department of Education infrastructure. Civic Builders’ approach to facilities relieves charter schools from the burden of having to navigate one of the most complex and competitive real estate marketplaces in the world, thereby enabling school administrators to focus time and resources on the important work of educating children.

Civic Builders was recently a recipient of the 2008 Fast Company/Monitor Group Social Capitalist Awards, appearing on the list for the second year in a row. Since its inception, Civic has raised over $17 million in philanthropy from sources such as The Broad Foundation, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and accessed nearly $170 million in government financing to build facilities serving more than 3,500 students. Civic Builders has initiated or completed school facilities totaling over $150 million in value and will double this total in the coming 18 months with projects currently in the pre-development stages.
