OVERVIEW
The Director of Fund Development is a seasoned development professional responsible for cultivating and sustaining relationships with donors, sponsors, and volunteers. Acting with a high degree of autonomy, the Director independently researches fund development strategies, evaluates emerging opportunities, and brings wellreasoned recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors. The role functions as a key thought partner and trusted advisor in shaping the organization’s fundraising direction.
SUPERVISORY AND OTHER CONTACTS
The Director of Development works under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer. This individual will have no direct supervision of staff. This individual will have contact with executives, administration, employees, union representatives, benefits vendors, and the public.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work with the CEO and the Board of Directors to implement all fund development activities of the organization, including current and planned-giving programs.
2. Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.
3. Oversee grant seeking and other funding sources including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
4. Plan and attend all functions of the organization – including special events for fund raising purposes.
5. Oversee and maintain donor and fundraising databases as well as tracking and reporting.
6. Lead event committees.
7. Assist in the orientation of new Board members, volunteers, and committee members as necessary.
8. Oversee and coordinate with appropriate staff and consultants to create all collateral materials for organization including, but not limited to, brochures, newsletters, special projects, and annual reports.
9. Ensure media coverage for the agency and events.
10. Actively seek new donors, volunteers, and opportunities to forge beneficial relationships on behalf of the organization.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
A four-year degree in marketing, fund development, or a related field.
3-5 years’ direct experience in successful non-profit fund development.
Extreme attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong math skills.
Experience with grant writing.
Ability to create written documents, letters, brochures, and reports independently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
Experience working with WordPress, Auctria/HandBid, Canva, Little Green Light, MailChimp, and Donor Box (preferred).
Ability to create and maintain databases.
Strong oral communication and public speaking skills.
Proficiency in the use and management of social media presence.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Comfortable with public speaking.
Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
OTHER DETAILS
Up to 50% travel required (in-state).
Remote up to 1 day per week.
The salary range is $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
