METROPOLITAN COUNCIL SEEKS A CHIEF AUDIT EXECUTIVE
The Chief Audit Executive (CAE) is responsible for developing and executing internal audit strategy in alignment with and in support of the overall strategic direction of the Met Council. The CAE provides strategic leadership vision, detailed planning, and oversight to the Internal Audit function, including annual risk assessments and audit planning; oversight of internal audit staff and processes; coordination of external assurance providers; and coordination with other leaders across the Council on topics including risk management, cybersecurity, finance, and human resources. The CAE reports functionally to the Audit Committee (and ultimately to the Chair and the Council) and administratively (i.e., day-to-day operations) to the Regional Administrator. This position also participates in cross-functional executive management activities.
Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role will have deep experience overseeing audits in a large organization; be a great communicator who builds trust with others and instills confidence in the work of the organization; and will be able to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to develop strategy and implement it. Optimally, the successful candidate will have some experience working in an internal audit function and knowledge of work in a public-sector environment. Experience with high-risk topics, such as cybersecurity and capital construction, are also useful.
The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning organization for the seven-county Twin Cities area. It runs the regional bus and light rail systems, collects and treats wastewater, manages regional water resources, plans regional parks, and administers funds that provide housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income individuals and families.
