Position Summary

Keystone is a small, accredited private elementary school which focuses on whole-child learning and individualized instruction. We believe in strengthening children socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Our school has a working 15-acre farm and animals with whom the kids interact daily. We also have a spring-fed creek, pond, and ample outdoor play and learning spaces. In addition to individualized and group instruction in math, literature, science, and social studies, students enjoy art, pasture, music, teamwork-based physical education, hands-on projects, our cognitive sensory classroom, Spanish, Take Flight Literacy, and more.
The Executive Director ensures academic excellence, healthy school culture, strong staff performance, operational effectiveness, financial stewardship, student safety, and alignment with the school’s mission and values. The role requires a collaborative, mission-driven leader who can effectively manage both educational programming and day-to-day school operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensuring Board policies and decisions are implemented consistently.
- Supporting governance practices that promote accountability and transparency.
- Facilitating strategic planning discussions with leadership and the Board.
- Monitoring progress toward organizational goals and adjusting direction when needed.
- Reviewing and approving annual budgets.
- Monitoring overall financial position in collaboration with leadership.
- Supporting alignment between enrollment trends, fundraising activity, and operational planning.
- Providing regular supervision and guidance to faculty and senior leaders.
- Supporting collaborative problem-solving across leadership roles.
- Maintaining clarity around roles, responsibilities, and decision authority.
- Partners with HR to recruit, hire, onboard, and retain high-quality faculty and staff.
- Conducts employee evaluations and performance improvement processes.
- Promotes a collaborative, mission-aligned workplace culture.
- Ensures employee handbook policies and HR practices are consistently applied.
- Maintains appropriate staffing and organizational accountability.
- Serving as the primary operational liaison for families regarding school life and student experience.
- Supporting teachers in addressing behavioral or developmental concerns of students.
- Responding to family questions or concerns related to classroom experience.
- Supervising the Facilities Manager and providing guidance on facilities planning and priorities.
- Ensuring that maintenance, safety procedures, and campus infrastructure needs are addressed consistently.
- Monitoring long-term campus needs and supporting planning for future infrastructure improvements.
- Serving as an ambassador for Keystone’s mission and educational philosophy.
- Supporting relationships with families, partners, and community organizations.
- Overseeing daily schedules and program implementation.
- Supporting consistency in instructional expectations across classrooms.
- Monitoring program effectiveness and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Supporting teachers in implementing curriculum and learning practices aligned with the school’s educational philosophy.
Supervisory Responsibility
This role supervises the faculty grade teachers, facilities maintenance, and HR.
Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The person in this position must be able to move throughout campus facilities regularly, and supervise student activities indoors and outdoors.
Required Job Qualifications, Experience, & Education
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience: 5+ years guiding organized strategy or complex programs and demonstrated leadership experience within a school or educational setting, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations. Must have experience managing staff, budgets, and school operations.
Skills:
- Strategic Leadership: Guides organizational direction while balancing mission, resources, and practical constraints.
- Organizational Communication: Communicates clearly with Board members, leadership, staff, and families to maintain shared understanding.
- Financial Literacy: Understands budgeting and financial reporting sufficiently to guide responsible decision-making.
- Collaborative Leadership: Builds alignment across perspectives and supports cooperative leadership relationships.
- Judgment and Institutional Awareness: Applies thoughtful decision-making grounded in mission, context, and organizational understanding.
Preferred Job Qualifications, Experience, Education and Training
Education: Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
Experience: Previous experience as a principal, assistant principal, dean, or school operations leader. Previous experience in private school, or alternative school environments.
Fundraising, enrollment management, or nonprofit leadership experience.
Skills: Advanced analytics for fundraising strategy; marketing and enrollment growth experience; experience collaborating with boards and senior leadership.
