Description
Binghamton University seeks applicants to a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor dance position to support the Theatre Department’s musical theatre BFA program. Candidates must have experience in musical theatre and will teach musical theatre dance, as well as jazz, tap, ballet and/or other dance styles in the candidate’s areas of expertise. In addition to teaching, this position will be responsible for choreographing department musical productions and will provide pedagogical and professional mentorship to a diverse array of students preparing for the demands of the current and future musical theatre landscape. The ideal candidate will have achieved distinction as a choreographer, dance teacher, and/or musical theatre performer, and will continue their creative research while working towards tenure and promotion.
Requirements
Master's degree (MFA) OR bachelor's degree (BFA/BA/BS) with at least 3 years of professional or university experience, awarded by August 17, 2026
Specialization in musical theatre dance
Knowledge of current trends in musical theatre and musical theatre-adjacent performance styles, techniques, and performing practices
Experience teaching diverse dance repertoire and styles common in the contemporary musical theatre to college students and/or professional performers
Experience in choreographing collegiate and/or professional musical theatre productions
Ability to work in highly collaborative teaching and rehearsal environments
