- Exhibition Services Manager
Description
The Exhibition Services Manager collaborates with curators, visiting national and international artists, and other staff members on the design of temporary and permanent collection exhibitions. This position interprets and works with museum administration to implement current policies and AAM accreditation standards to ensure best practices.
Requirements
- Manages the planning and installation of museum exhibitions and the development of conceptual designs.
- Creates detailed 2D and 3D renderings of conceptual designs.
- Coordinates the preparation of artwork and other materials for exhibitions and the collection.
- Researches and sources specialized materials and equipment for use in exhibition planning and development.
- Collaborates with exhibition curator, exhibiting artists, and other members of the Collections and Exhibition Department on installation design, schedule, and execution.
- Advises and directs preparatory staff as needed.
- Provides training for preparatory staff and other museum technicians on museum methods and safe use of wood shop and tools.
- Directs the design, fabrication, construction, and install of technically complex museum exhibitions.
- Designs alterations to museum galleries to meet the needs of exhibition, including temporary walls, exhibition furniture and lighting design.
- Works with the curator to determine layout of artworks within the exhibition space.
- Collaborates with other stakeholders on lighting, sound, and multi-media design and installation.
- Designs and produces artwork labels and other didactic labels.
- Researches electronic equipment and other materials.
- Manages archival framing and matting of artworks.
- Designs and manages construction of exhibition furniture.
- Consults with museum administration and facilities on physical plant requirements.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in exhibition design, architecture, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
5+ years of experience in museum exhibition design
Knowledge of museum exhibition fabrication techniques and materials
Knowledge of museum lighting design and electrical systems
Strong portfolio of museum exhibit designs
Expertise in 3D modeling software, such as AutoCAD and SketchUp
Excellent project management skills
Strong basic math skills
Ability to work well under tight deadlines
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
