Position Description for: Director of Programs & Events
Location: Phoenix, AZ; currently AZ Impact for Good operates in a hybrid work environment.
Travel: Required periodically, depending on location of in-person events throughout the state
Hours: This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. Monday-Friday with flexible hours within a normal workday timeframe (6am-6pm for example).
Reports To: CEO
Supervises: Programs & Events Manager
Salary: $75,000-80,000 per year; benefits include employer-paid health insurance, tele-doc, vision, dental, life, AD&D and short-term and long-term disability; 401k with employer match; work-from-home stipend; paid vacation time; paid holidays; and flexible work schedule.
Position Summary
The Director of Programs & Events ensures the organization is listening to, acting upon and meeting the needs of our members through the development and delivery of a wide variety of timely, relevant, and innovative programs to educate, connect, and build the capacity of nonprofits and grantmakers. This individual will ensure organizational goals are monitored and met by effectively communicating with and engaging members, speakers, program sponsors and other stakeholders. The Director of Programs & Events is a skilled facilitator, speaker and communicator, and ensures the association is well represented and members are engaged and satisfied with the programming provided. This individual is constantly learning and staying up to speed on the latest developments within the sectors we serve and ensuring programming is designed to meet the needs of the members and advance the sector forward.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the planning, delivery and follow up activities of various signature programs such as Nonprofit Lifecycles, Board Governance, Finance Navigator, and others.
Prospects, proposes, and successfully contracts private board governance trainings
Adds content to the learning management system and communicates content/courses to members in partnership with the marketing team
Works in coordination with the membership, marketing, advocacy and philanthropy departments as needed for promotion, collaboration on programs, and other needed coordination on communication
Works in partnership with the business development and philanthropy departments to ensure programs are fully funded and helps identify potential sponsors or grant opportunities
Tracks income/expenses, overall budget, and pre- and post-program data for funders, VP of Membership & Business Development and CEO, ensuring that program budgets and requirements are met
Manages the planning, delivery and follow up activities of peer group programming and convenings, including grantmaker specific programs and joint programs
Develops timely and relevant ideas for new peer groups and tailors programming based on groups’ needs
Develops, manages, and communicates the annual calendar of programs and events, ensuring that appropriate timelines are created and coordinated with other departments to ensure effective communication to meet attendance goals
Partners with Membership team to promote and connect members into peer groups and other programming as appropriate
Supports the Arizona Gives (year-round) and Arizona Gives Day (annually) program
Coordinates and communicates with Arizona Gives technology and donation platform partners to ensure maximum effectiveness, usability, and functionality
Works directly with nonprofit participants to onboard to the AZ Gives platform, renew/update profiles each year, and provide technical assistance and training throughout the year
Provides content and programmatic updates to Marketing team to ensure timely and relevant information is shared with participants, donors, and supporters year-round
Represents the organization on various committees, in membership organizations, nonprofit coalitions, and other identified groups, with the goal of remaining informed, engaged and connected to the nonprofit and grantmaking sectors
Manages and strengthens community partnerships with synergistic organizations (AFP, GPA, Chambers, nonprofit membership associations etc.)
Researches potential program and educational partners, develops relationships, and determines appropriate partnership structure for maximum ROI for both the organization and partners
Develops, manages and ensures the success of MOUs with existing partners and confirms deliverables have been met, outcomes are measured, and partnerships are adjusted, as needed
Remains knowledgeable regarding current issues/trends affecting the community and nonprofit and grantmaking organizations to support development of new programs
Skills, Abilities and Qualifications
The Director of Programs & Events position requires various prerequisite skills, abilities and qualifications needed for success, including:
Required
Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in learning/training/capacity-building and events.
Proven successful track record and experience in learning/training/capacity-building program development and delivery
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent facilitation skills
Outstanding customer service-oriented attitude with proven successful track record in relationship-building
Desire and ability to lead and work within a team
Excellent conflict resolution and people skills and ability to maintain lasting relationships
Experience with MS Office Suite, database management software and videoconference tools
Exceptional organization skills with the ability to coordinate numerous projects with minimal guidance
Commitment to the organization’s values and goals, and the ability to professionally represent the organization as a steward of its overall mission
Physical Requirements
The person in this position will occasionally lift or move objects of moderate weight (i.e., boxes of printed materials, supplies or meeting tables) and assorted items needed for meeting set-up (i.e., conference telephone, catering, video camera). The person must be able to frequently operate a computer and remain in a stationary position. A valid Arizona driver’s license is required. This position may require working beyond regular hours as required for event planning and delivery.
