Description
Reporting to the AVP, Marketing & Communications, the Director, Marketing & Communications, serves as a leader on the Communications team. The Director collaboratively creates and tactically executes paid, earned and owned marketing and communication strategies to drive broader awareness of the Foundation and increase giving to Riley Children’s Foundation. As a player/coach, this position assists in advancing the mission and desired culture of the Foundation by managing members of the content and creative teams and serving as an important individual contributor/producer.
Key Responsibilities
1. Expectations for All Managers
Working closely with the Riley Management Team, follow best practices and tools to:
- Develop and Influence Riley Culture: Realize the importance of you as a manager, modeling and influencing the Our Riley Community culture. Exhibit trust, innovation and compassion.
- Lead the Way and Be Accountable: Manage staff in planning and organizing projects. Develop goals and accountabilities. Follow Foundation performance management practices and meet Human Resources deadlines. Model the way.
- Hire the Best: Have up-to-date job descriptions for all direct reports. Follow Foundation hiring practices. Prepare and participate in new employee orientation. Complete 90-day Feedback for new employees.
- Guide Your Staff: Set clear expectations and high standards of performance. Provide training, coaching, feedback and corrective action when necessary.
- Engage Your Staff: Be approachable to direct reports and others. Use forms of recognition to thank employees within your team and across the Foundation. Collaborate across the Foundation.
- Create a Best Practice Operation: Stay up to date on best practices. Effectively allocate resources. Manage budget as necessary. Establish metrics to minimize costs and maximize impact.
- Manager Training: Actively participate in all Manager Briefings and use the skills and behaviors identified.
2. Marketing and Communications Campaign Planning and Execution: Working with the AVP, Marketing & Communications, support the development and implementation of integrated, multi-channel marketing and communications campaigns that incorporate digital, print, advertising and public relations, to reach desired audiences and drive increased giving and donor retention.
- Guide campaign development and audience journeys, including the development of key messages based on market research, audience segmentation, and frameworks that reinforce donor engagement and conversion
- Identify the most effective communication channels to reach target audiences and produce appropriate content with tailored messaging to engage each audience segment.
- Evaluate and prioritize requests from Foundation departments and determine appropriate technical assistance and resources to assist in the marketing, communications and positioning of their activities, based on business objectives and potential ROI. Use research and data to measure outcomes and adapt strategies to ensure continuous quality improvement, channel optimization, and effectiveness.
3. Content and Creative Development: Lead content and creative development for impact storytelling in support of the overall marketing and communications strategy.
Lead content and creative development for email, web, publications, video, promotional materials, events, and digital and traditional advertising, as well as oversee public relations activities.
- Ensure the Riley Children’s Foundation brand is depicted in a positive light and that the Foundation is positioned as a charity of choice in Indiana.
- Collaborate with the AVP, Marketing & Communications to maintain consistency and ensure high quality asset output across all channels
- Develop social media strategy in partnership with AVP, Marketing & Communications and lead development of deliverables
4. Administrative: Maintain accountability to administrative systems and procedures.
- Meetings: Prepare for and actively participate in all Riley Children’s Foundation meetings as appropriate. Ensure expectations and tools for meeting agendas and follow-up are implemented.
- Budget: Work with supervisor to develop, manage and monitor the budget, staying within overall budget guidelines.
- Technology: Understand and effectively use the technology available at the Riley Children’s Foundation.
- Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with all Foundation policies, as well as local, state and federal laws that govern business practices.
5. Other Duties as Assigned
- Riley Children’s Foundation events: Participate in Riley Children’s Foundation Events as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or public relations required.
- Experience: Five to Seven years of relevant Marketing and Communications experience. Two to four years of people management experience. One to two years of experience leading leaders (manager of managers, directors, or functional leaders)
- Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, both strategic and operational with a demonstrated ability to build, manage, mentor and motivate an effective team. Proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner. Strong work ethic. Excellent judgment. Thoughtful, creative and innovative problem-solving skills. Strong analytical skills. Competency in planning and execution of projects and plans. Attention to detail and organization. Collaborative and flexible style with a strong service mentality. Must be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning. Very strong digital marketing and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to manage marketing and communications strategy and detailed implementation simultaneously. Ability to communicate strategically to external audiences. Ability to synthesize large volumes of material. Proficiency in marketing automation, content management systems, and constituent relationship management platforms required; experience with project management systems preferred.
