Description
Exhibition Planning & Execution
- Leads the planning, design, and installation of all exhibitions, including layout, artwork placement, and on-site execution.
- Manages all phases of exhibition production, including de-installation, site preparation, and installation.
- Develops and implements the Museum’s exhibition program, including research, scheduling, and execution.
- Oversee exhibition timelines, budgets, and workflows to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
- Ensures gallery spaces are safe, well-maintained, and visually compelling.
- Maintains exhibition schedules to minimize downtime and optimize visitor experience.
Curatorial & Collections Management
- Research, develop, and curate exhibitions aligned with the Museum’s mission.
- Oversee the care, documentation, preservation, and interpretation of the Permanent Collection.
- Manage acquisitions, registration, and collection-related activities in coordination with relevant committees.
- Develop interpretive materials, including labels, catalogs, and educational resources content.
Leadership & Administration
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates curatorial staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Manages departmental budgets, including grants and project funding.
- Participates in institutional strategic planning and goal setting.
- Ensures adherence to museum standards, policies, and best practices.
Collaboration & Public Engagement
- Collaborates with education staff to develop curriculum-based programs and train docents.
- Works with development staff and leadership to secure funding and prepare grant proposals and reports.
- Builds and maintains relationships with artists, collectors, donors, and community partners.
- Represents the Museum at events, programs, and public engagements as needed.
Communications & Outreach
- Contributes content for marketing materials, website, and publications.
- Supports the development of exhibition-related promotional materials and interpretive content.
- Serves as a resource for staff and the public on curatorial matters.
Requirements
Education, Experience, and Key Competencies
- Master’s degree in art, art history, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in program management, curatorial work, and supervisory responsibilities in a museum or similar institution.
- Minimum of one (1) year of direct curatorial experience, including researching, developing, and executing exhibitions.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff, interns, or volunteers.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage complex projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience mentoring and motivating teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment.
- Proficiency with standard office and presentation software.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
