Description
The City of East Lansing is seeking to fill a vacant Assistant to the City Manager. This is an excellent professional position in service to an enlightened, participative residential/university community which is home to Michigan State University.

JOB SUMMARY: This position provides administrative and operational support to the City Manager by representing the Manager’s Office to residents, visitors, and staff, resolving problems and requests answering phone calls; scheduling appointments; preparing and editing correspondence and reports; planning and organizing meetings; representing the City at local and regional events; overseeing the City’s community engagement efforts including, but not limited to coordinating and organizing the City’s Emerging Leaders program, ; staffing various boards and commissions and neighborhood associations; conducting research, analyzing data; assisting with policy development and preparing and managing the office budget and processing invoices.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications include strong communication skills, written and oral with a positive attitude, skills in time management and administrative tasks like calendar management, correspondence, and project management. Associates degree required. A valid driver’s license is required. Attendance at night meetings will be required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree with governmental experience preferred; however, comparable non-government background will also be considered. Superior interpersonal skills, employee/public relations skills preferred.
Additionally, to perform the essential functions of the job, an individual may be required to maintain a physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time, general manual dexterity; operating assigned equipment; adequate hearing, vision and speech required, with or without accommodation.
